Fern Hollow Bridge Build

The Fern Hollow Bridge is being rebuilt after the January collapse.  Swank Construction and Maxim Crane are the contractors on the job.  Beams for the bridge were brought in throughout a couple weeks and then put into place.  The bridge is on a fast track to open hopefully by the end of this year.

Maple Hill Solar Farm

The Solar Fam is owned by CPV Maple Hill Solar, LLC, an affiliate of Competitive Power Ventures, Inc. It is located in the Southeastern part of Cambria County, near the town of Portage. The dirt work is on 750 acres and was performed by Charles J. Merlo, Inc., a signatory contractor from Mineral Point, PA. At peak construction, Local 66 had close to 30 operators on site, clearing, installing access roads, drainage and retention ponds. The project is ongoing and expected to be completed in the fall of 2023.

Alcosan

The Alcosan project actually started over 5 years ago with the replacement of the main pumps. During the last several years, the full expansion of the entire plant began. The two biggest contracts in this expansion are the North End Expansion, with Mascaro as the contractor, and the East Head-Works, with PJ Dick as the contractor.

Lakeview Landfill

Thomas Construction has been the general contractor at the Lakeview Landfill for the past few years.  Prior to Thomas Construction, this work was being performed by a non-Union company, Showman Excavating.  Waste Management has been extremely impressed with the work being performed by Thomas Construction and their operators, so much so that they are rushing to get everything in place so that Thomas Construction can move right into the next phase without having to move their equipment off site.  This project will be ongoing. 

Fern Hollow Bridge Collapse - Bus Removal

The Fern Hollow Bridge in the East End of Pittsburgh, connecting Squirrel Hill with Point Breeze/Regent Square collapsed in the early morning of January 28, 2022. One of the vehicles needing removed from the collapse was a PAT bus. Allegheny Crane Rental was the contractor called in to get this bus out of the bottom of the ravine. Kyrk Pyros, President of Allegheny Crane, is pictured.
